A Stalker

“You think you know what you’re capable of but you don’t,” I told the man I was accused of harassing.

“Sheilah, you’re talking about yourself,” he said, and I agreed.

Not that I meant to stalk a coworker. I just couldn’t stop myself from driving by his house. Phoning his cell. Pausing long minutes by his desk at work. Another person might have waited for everything to blow over. I wasn’t dangerous, was I? Only deluded and lonely. Besides, it’s true for most people—isn’t it?—that half the time you’re walking yourself around the block not knowing your leash is broken.
